Crying out for Home!!

Yesterday we visited an orphanage that focuses on special needs kids. It was an incredible place! They live in homes and have "nannies" that take care of them in a three to one ratio (which is VERY good for here in China). This place is a sign of hope - a sign of those who follow The Risen One - in a country where those with special needs are really invisible, discarded and forgotten. (On a side note: "special needs" may only mean a cleft palate or a limb that needs surgery to work properly.)

However, even though Shepherd's Field (the orphanage) is a sign of hope, seeing all those kids reminds me of the dark world we live in. How did things get this way? What happens in the human condition that makes us discard another? Why are there not REAL homes (and REAL moms and dads) for all these children? For those of us who follow the God who is a "Father to the fatherless", do we reflect that part of His character?

These children are crying out for a home. How are we to be home for them?

(Plus also, I am missing my home. As I write this it is Mikaela's birthday (here) and I miss her and Luc and David. So I send kisses...and hugs...and can't wait to be home!!)
